By Marty Gabler

The quickest fulfillment to a prophecy that I have ever seen took place while I was still prophesying to a young woman. I had just prophesied to her that the spirit of poverty was coming off her and that God would turn her finances around very soon. While I was still prophesying to her a lady, who had not heard what I had said, walked up and slipped a $100 bill into her hand. Later, when I asked the giver about it she told me that she had felt led of the Lord to give that person $100 and that she had not heard what I had prophesied just one minute before she did it.

We all prefer that God would take the instruction of the scripture that says, “that thou doest, do quickly.” Our hearts race when we hear messages preached on “The Suddenlies of God.” Bill Hamon writes that he has looked into prophetic terminology and has discovered that “immediately” means from one day to three years. “Very soon” means one to ten years. “Now” or “this day” means one to forty years. “I will” without a definite time designation means God will act sometime in the person’s life if he is obedient. “Soon” was the term Jesus used to describe the time of His soon return almost two thousand years ago.

“When personal prophecy comes forth, it is divinely decreed and established in the spiritual, heavenly realm. But it may be many years before it is fulfilled in the natural realm. For that reason, we must not judge a prophecy false simply because it did not come to pass in the time we had assumed.” (Bill Hamon, Prophets and Personal Prophecy, p.122)

There are persons who get very discouraged and lay down their prophecies and their dreams when they haven’t come to pass within a short period of time. They remain hopeful for a few weeks or a few months and then begin fault-finding. Fault is generally laid either on the person who prophesied or directly on God as though He had changed His mind.

If a prophecy is fulfilled there are reasons. If a prophecy is not fulfilled there are reasons. Let us consider factors concerning fulfillment and let us consider that we have a part in the fulfillment of our prophecy. There are three key factors to receiving the fulfillment of a prophecy. These are not all the factors possibly involved in a prophecy being fulfilled but I believe they are key factors.

I. PROPHECY SPEAKS OF POTENTIAL

When Joseph received his prophetic dream, God was speaking of Joseph’s potential in the “saving of many.” Obviously, Joseph would not go out and immediately become everything the dream depicted. He was immature and evidently had some real attitude problems that must be worked out of him.

From Joseph’s story we learn that the Word of God will prove us.

Ps 105:17He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: 18Whose feet they hurt with fetters: he was laid in iron: 19Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The word “tried” means “to fuse, refine, purge away, to smelt” (Strong). The one thing that did happen very quickly to Joseph after his prophetic dream was that he quickly moved from the soft bed of the dream to the hardness of iron fetters. Ps 12:The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Ps 18:30As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. Ps 66:10For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried. Any soldier would think it foolish to take a sword into battle that had not been tried. The “proving” will typically take a certain length of time.

When the prophet found David out watching his father’s sheep, David was not ready to have the crown placed upon his head. It was as good as done as far as God was concerned but the actual manifesting of the prophecy would not take place for a number of years. Now that we can look back on the scriptures we can see how God was immediately working in personalities, politics and the nation in general to bring that prophecy to pass. I doubt, however, that David could see it all coming together as we can from our point of reference. There were numerous “suddenlies” which began to take place as soon as David was prophesied to.

Don’t hold persons in the place where they are when they receive a prophecy. Don’t hold yourself in the place where you are when you receive a prophecy. Joseph’s brothers began asking him who in the world he thought he was. Gen 37:8And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words. There certainly was no evidence in his present surroundings that Joseph would be what the prophetic dream indicated. Cf 2 Cor 5:16Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh…

Prognostication considers all the present factors and concludes that the future will look a certain way because of those factors. Prophecy looks at the future and proclaims that the Word of God will be fulfilled no matter what present circumstances seem to indicate. The Word of God is powerful. It is creative.

Don’t hold yourself in the place where you are today because there is a tomorrow coming and it is only a few hours away!

Prophecy does speak of potential but potential can be forfeited. When we get bogged down with distractions, when we get side-tracked, we become ineffective and we forfeit potential. The enemy doesn’t have to destroy our prophecy or our dream or our vision. All he has to do is lead us off on to some side-track for us to lose sight of our destiny. Cf 2 Sam 11:1 is a sad illustration of my point. “At the time when kings go forth to battle… David sent Joab.” The insuing events occurred because David was a king but was not doing what a king was supposed to do. Bathsheba became David’s preoccupation.

II. GET INTO AGREEMENT WITH GOD

God told Abraham that Israel would be in Egypt for 400 years and then would come out (Gen 15:13-14). But the Word later tells us that God delivered His people when they cried out (Ex 2:23-24;3:7,9). Somebody got into agreement with God and then it happened.

The important key we learn here is that prayer must accompany prophecy all the way through the process. Isa 55:10-11 shows us that God’s Word goes through a cycle before it can return to Him. He does not allow it to return void. The example He gives in this context is the example of rain falling and bearing fruit before it is returned in the cycle of condensation and precipitation. Our prayers are the dynamic in this cycle. Martin Luther said, “Prayer is not overcoming the reluctance of God. It is laying hold of his willingness.” Someone else said that nothing is done on earth but by prayer. We are not passive in the fulfillment of our prophecy.

Allow me to say one more time that a prophecy is not an all-expense-paid magic carpet ride that sets us down in the middle of destiny after our in-flight movie and peaceful nap. Neither is a prophecy the wave of a magic wand that instantly changes personalities and motives.

III. WE MUST COOPERATE WITH PROPHECY

There are those who want to lay blame and point at those who prophesy. Whenever something doesn’t go the way a person perceives it should go, that person wants to point the finger and lay blame upon someone or some thing.

If a prophecy doesn’t come to pass in a short period of time and if it doesn’t come to pass like a magician waving his wand, the disillusioned person begins making their displeasure known. Then, in sympathy with that person, someone joins in and declares that people should not prophesy because there are people out there who are disillusioned and hurt over a prophecy that has not come to pass. Generally, a faithless defender will look at that person’s surroundings and estimate that the prophecy could not be true anyway.

Prophecies are conditional. When a prophecy does not come to pass, there is probably more than one reason. We must cooperate and the proper synonym of that cooperation is obedience. Mk 14 is a prime example of cooperating with prophecy. Mark 14:13And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him. 14And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 15And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us. 16And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. When obeying, matters are found to be simple. Jesus said, “Go into the city” and certain things will transpire. They went into the city and those things transpired.

Another way we can cooperate with prophecy is to consider the main thrust. For example, if you have received the prophecy that you are a teacher you should begin cooperating by beginning preparation. Take classes, buy reference works and teaching tapes. Go to meetings where teachers are ministering so that you can “catch” some of what God has put in them.

There is a great difference between cooperating with the prophecy and trying to make it happen. If you are a teacher, you are not supposed to try to make it happen by trying to take over the Sunday morning pulpit. The scriptural principle is: A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. (Prov 18:16) The cooperation and the obedience qualifies us for room to be made.

I was ministering at a church in a far away land. At the end of the service I was talking to some people I knew from having previously ministered at that church. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a lady waiting to talk to me. When those folks left, she walked up, firmly grabbed my hand and asked if I remembered her.

One year before, she had been delivered of some heavy stuff when I ministered to her and prophesied to her. She allowed me to know that she had gotten victory for a short period of time and also on a couple of occasions since. But this lady was really bent out of shape because of the general overall lousy state of her life. As she focused in on fault-finding I stopped her to ask one simple question. I looked her in the eye and asked, “During the past year, how many hours have you spent in the Word and how many have you spent praying over that prophecy? She summarily withdrew her hand and said a brief farewell. No Word + No Prayer = No Cooperation = No Fulfillment. No Prayer = No Fulfillment. Know Prayer = Know Fulfillment.

One man recently reminded me of a prophecy I gave him about a year ago. The prophecy had something to do with a promotion and a great deal more money than he was presently making. He began praying about the word he had received. He began asking God for a plan. He felt led to go over to their competition and lay hands on the building and claim the promotion and prosperity he had been told of in the prophecy. The man continued to pray for himself and also began praying for two other men in his church in the same manner he was praying for himself. Two months later the company he was working for shut down. Their competition hired him at a promoted position paying much more money than he had previously made. He was instrumental in one of the other men being hired and that man was now making more money. The second man he was praying for was hired at another company making more money.

We know in part and prophesy in part (1Co 13:9). Perhaps the part that we don’t receive in the prophecy is the part we get in prayer and studying the Word. Prophesying was never meant to take the place of our personally relating to God. On numerous occasions people have walked up to me after a service and told me that everything I prophesied to them, they already knew. But they felt it was awesome that God would speak to them in such a way. God was using me to confirm to them what they had already sensed was something from the Lord.

These are only three keys in the fulfillment of a prophecy. There are other factors such as timing, patience, wrong perceptions, humility and your level of maturity. God is very concerned about character and He is not shy about taking all the time He deems necessary to form it in us.

The place to start after receiving a prophecy is to share it with those who have care for your soul. Share it with prayer partners and begin seeking out God in His Word and in your prayer closet. You have just begun a wonderful adventure!

When we realize, as did Pharaoh, that a vision or dream is significant, we must first understand the dream before we can interpret it. Gen 41:15 “And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.” “Understand” in Gen. 41:15 is from the Hebrew word, “shama`” (shaw-mah’), which means to hear, to have power to hear, to listen and give heed, to obey, to consider diligently, to discern, or to summon.

Daniel was a man of God, like Joseph, whose understanding also preceded interpretation. Daniel 5:12, lists Daniel’s qualities in significant sequence: Daniel had 1) an excellent spirit, and 2) knowledge (the power of knowing, wisdom, intelligence, reason), and 3) understanding, 4) interpreting of dreams and 5) shewing of hard sentences (solving riddles) and 6) dissolving (to unravel, to free) of doubts. Notice that understanding came before interpretation. It is important also to note the two qualities that preceded understanding: 1) an excellent spirit and 2) the power of knowledge, wisdom. Both of these qualities indwell believers since the excellency of Christ, the Anointed One and the Truth Himself, dwell in the believer. And as surely as He dwells in us, He makes available to us the secret (the counsel of God) to understand and interpret (hear and heed the thoughts of God) in dreams as Jeremiah 23:18 reveals: “For who hath stood in the counsel (“cowd” – a secret, secret consultation, intimacy, assembled in session) of the Lord . . . and hath marked (“qashab” – heeded, paid attention) to his word? So through intimacy with God, we gain insight into the mysterious symbolism of dreams and visions. First we “diligently consider” the message or symbolism of a dream. When crossing a language barrier through an interpreter, the bi-lingual person can either translate each word exactly, (which is not always a coherent thought or culturally correct to the hearer); or the bi-lingual person can interpret, using any and all appropriate words to get the meaning of the speaker across to the hearer. Understanding a dream can at first seem piecemeal, like an incoherent, direct “translation” because it involves exacting each possible symbolic meaning of the settings or activities or atmosphere or conversations in a dream. But the process of understanding, “considering diligently and discerning” the symbolic pieces of a dream, is like gathering the materials to build a bridge. When all the pieces are lined out and the bridge is assembled, we have a path from inquiry to insight. As we cross over that bridge, the destination comes into view or opens up to us. “Interpret” is the Hebrew word “Pathar” (paw-thar`), which means to open it up. So through understanding we grasp the what of a dream and through interpretation we grasp the why or its purpose for the dreamer!

The understanding of God-given dreams and visions draws a path to some aspect of destiny, and the interpretation is an enabling to walk it out. The secret revealed in Jeremiah 12:18 stressed two things: 1) know consultation in intimacy with God and 2) heed His word. We must be diligent to understand God-given dreams and then be as diligent to embrace the interpretation or truth revealed. Jeremiah 23:28, 29, 32 paraphrased: ‘The inspired man that has a dream with a prophetic, inspired meaning, should take action, tell the dream; and he that has my word, my decree, my cause, my message should speak my word faithfully. For a word from God will burn like fire and like a hammer break the rock (or those high, lofty, impenetrable strongholds, those secure places and fortresses), into pieces. In other words, a Word from God will impact us and break down those high, lofty strongholds of imagination that bind us or keep us from being renewed in our thoughts and transformed into the image of Christ! So we must not go astray or stagger by treating God’s communiques through dreams and visions with lightness, recklessness, or frivolity.

If you sense a dream or vision is significant, write it down, describing the events or scenes. Then pursue understanding of what you are seeing until you understand why you are seeing it!

After recognizing a dream is significant, we must be diligent to understand God-given dreams and then be as diligent to embrace the interpretation or truth revealed. In the last article we stressed that understanding of symbolism is usually a prerequisite to interpretation of dreams or visions; for understanding God-given dreams and visions makes a path or gives direction while the interpretation equips us with insight or mandate. Let me stop and stress that we are talking about more than natural understanding. Remember Daniel’s qualities were in significant sequence: Daniel had 1) an excellent spirit, 2) the power of knowing, wisdom, intelligence, reason, 3) understanding, 4) interpreting of dreams, 5) solving riddles, and 6) dissolving of doubts. Natural understanding, that is not influenced by an excellent spirit, (the Anointed One in us), is limited to our emotions, mindsets and experiences; so it is important that we subject our understanding to the Spirit to have a full, unbiased perception.

There will be times when understanding does not require an intricate examination and piecemeal breakdown of a dream as we previously discussed. Understanding can be immediate: 1) when the dream or vision is literal, a rehearsal with precise details and no symbolism, like the dream in Matt 1:20: But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost, and like the vision in Luke 1:11: And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord . . . the angel said unto him, . . . thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

2) when the Spirit of Truth simultaneously imparts both understanding and interpretation of the dream: Matt 27:19: When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him, or 3) when the symbolism is obvious and confirmed: Acts 10:17-20, Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean,. . . the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

Symbolism is the use of signs, symbols or occurrences as representations, expressions or identifying marks of intangible truths or plans or conditions. Symbolism does not always have a simple, single definition. The same symbol can have multiple meanings; sometimes they even seem contradictory. For example, the number “2″ can mean either a conclusive witness – like 2 different people agreeing, or it can mean opposition, enmity, division (work of 2nd day), double-tongued, doubled-minded, or double-portion. So understanding involves considering the setting as well as the symbol. A room in a dream could signify either a place of particular potential or function or it could represent boundaries, limitation and captivity, depending on the flow of the dream. The color red in a dream could refer to either the Blood, God’s completed plan and provision and access for man, or it could mean financial trial, or it could reveal embarrassing self doubts or hidden emotions such as anger.

Symbolism is most evident when a dream is way out of the “normal” range, totally uncommon or abstract and strange. However, it is important to recognize symbolism is not always as obvious as it may seem. So, we cannot assume a dream is literal rather than symbolic just because real or logical events take place. Sometimes even real or common occurrences are symbolic rather than literal. For example: Death in a dream is not usually a sad telegram to stir up fear, dread or grief but rather a prophetic insight: 1) that commissions us to intercede because we are spying out of the enemy’s plan, which being interpreted is a call to intercession to interrupt the enemy’s plan, [If we don’t realize that we are glimpsing the enemy’s assignment that needs to be spoiled, we can go into mourning about it and thereby actually agree with the enemy’s plan, allowing it to happen.] 2) Or, that commissions us to embrace the processing of purpose because dreams of death can (and do most often) have nothing to do with physical death, but are rather representative of the end of a season or phase, a change, a transformation, an end that initiates new beginnings, (like death of a carnal mindset to give way to spiritual revelation).

After we have understood symbolism, we must avoid the temptation to stop there. Joseph’s dream of the sheaves bowing was symbolic, and his family immediately understood the symbolism. But they, nor Joseph, could interpret the dream at that time. The family considered the dream a condescending threat. They saw the picture but not the purpose. Their understanding was completely carnal and initiated a carnal response that actually would have brought about their own starvation had they succeeded. They had no awareness that the dream spoke of their literal survival in future. We can miss the whole point if we act on our natural understanding alone, without insight as to its interpretation – the reason we dreamed it.

Understanding & Interpretation are gifts and therefore initiated and imparted by God. We cannot impatiently lay hold of either. The development of both will not be rushed by even the driving forces of urgent times, stirring dreams or numerous visions. There were no short cuts in God’s cultivating these gifts in Daniel and Joseph. Both young men were simultaneously being gifted while processed in character, which included the development of an excellent spirit, of wisdom, of intelligence and of reason. Daniel and Joseph were destined to affect entire nations; so God would not risk their gift and purpose to frailty of character. Daniel grew in God as a prisoner, stolen away from his homeland. He was not overcome by circumstance, but overcame. Joseph overcame rejection and hopelessness and became a man that reflected the purity, power and salvation of his God.

I’ve often wondered about Joseph’s motive for announcing his dreams. Was he trying to get affirmation, confirm his importance or identity, or acting in pride? I wonder if his name gave a clue to his character and personality. His name meant “let him add” which in my thinking could indicate a mathematician (perhaps annoyingly clever or systematic), or could indicate a vivid imagination, an embellisher, or even one having the last word. Or, was he simply so immature that he did not understand before he spoke that the dream implied that he was superior and would of course cause offense in his family? Or, was he compelled to tell it? I do not believe that we necessarily have an example in Joseph that means we should blurt out our exciting or intimate visions, but I do believe that Joseph speaking his dream released the power of the spoken word and set his destiny in motion. Possibly his announcing his dream was about God’s timing and that was the day to initiate the process of purpose in him. Would the dreams have come to pass had he not spoken them? I believe so. Surely, God would have sent some other timely instigator. Yet there are times to keep our conceived promises to ourselves because of the pearl-before-swine principle. Sometimes we must protect and nurture a dream until it is ready to be interpreted or birthed, ready to live and thrive outside of us.

After we consider the many time-consuming components and variables of the gifts of Understanding and Interpretation, we can either feel frustrated in soul or challenged in spirit. We must realize that our soul’s frustration comes from wanting things cut and dried, from wanting an indisputable list of rules; and our soul wants those things so that it can be in control, the control that comes with knowledge and know-how. Our soul will often lead us to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in its desire for control, but true insight and life-giving revelation comes through eating of the Tree of Life or relationship that builds trust rather than control. That is probably the main reason there are seemingly contradictory meanings for the same symbols and probably the reason there is always the question of literal or symbolic. We are challenged in spirit when we realize that if these things were determined through logic and systematic research rather than relationship, God would not use dreams as a tool at all. Everything God does is to build relationship. He uses dreams and visions to bring revelation. By revealing Truth, He brings liberty. By revealing Himself, He imparts character. By revealing knowledge, He builds an ear to hear. By revealing a call, He builds faith that establishes the believer in authority and destiny. Many Christian biographies end in tragedy regarding the gifted that did not develop in character and relationship. So God stresses relationship – fully confident of His gifts and His ability to gift, but intent upon the character and faith in us to carry and release the gift.

“He who forms the mountains, creates the wind, he who turns dawn to darkness and treads the high places of the earth – the Lord God Almighty is his name, he reveals his thoughts to man,” (Amos 4:13para-phrase). Write the vision down and make it plain so that he that reads it may break it down speedily and run with it,” (Hab 2:2-paraphrase). It is the glory of God to conceal and keep close a word, a matter, advice, counsel, a thought; but it is the honor, glory, abundant riches, and splendor of kings to search out his word, his counsel and his thoughts,” (Prov 25:2-paraphrase).

The search builds relationship! God often communicates with man in symbols and parallels. As Jesus spoke in parables, on one level, the natural mind could simply remember an interesting story; but the spirit of man could discern real-life truths within the story and act on them. Being stirred in spirit enough to search out and lay hold of the truth builds relationship with Truth, just as His disciples built relationship with Him as they sought Him out wanting to understand the truth. God still speaks through symbols and parallels whether in dreams or visions or parables, to lead to understanding – the intimate understanding and conversation of friends. Godly dreams display strategies, confirm plans and direction, and reveal overcoming truths. As we realize this, we realize how intricate and awesome our God is, and our understanding and love for Him grow in the search.

Dreams are a vivid example of how we communicate in sounds and pictures and senses. Just like reading words on a page, seeing the look on someone’s face or having a conversation, dreams can speak to us. Most people dream, just like most people have ears and the ability to hear sounds. But sometimes we do not pay attention to our dreams, just like we do not really hear the meaning of words that pass through our ears. For example, it is possible to have several people in the same room with a television on. Even though they have ears to hear, there is no guarantee that everyone will hear what is said. If they pay attention and understand the meaning of the words and the images on the screen, then they are hearing. So it is with dreams. I believe that in dreams we have an ear to hear; and if we will hear, God can and will speak to us. If we expect to hear from God in dreams, our faith ushers Him in.

Dreams can be rehearsals or telegrams . . . There is always a reason for dreaming, but not all dreams are to be researched or acted upon. Some dreams are mixed messages and only parts are of particular significance; but some are significant rehearsals or timely telegrams. Dreams are usually significant if they are: recurring or unforgettable or intensely detailed.

Dreams can deal with your concerns . . . My dad often dreams the solution to mechanical problems that his awake mind could not solve. Possibly the answer came in dreams because his awake mind was distracted by pressures and frustrations. Possibly his awake mind’s library of known facts had incomplete or wrong conclusions. Conclusions establish a boundary that says: “NO MORE THINKING BEYOND THIS LINE.” This mental fence around an issue tells “awake logic” to explore no further, but dreams are not limited to “awake logic.” Sometimes his dreams are gifts from the Lord, a Word of Knowledge or Word of Wisdom.

Dreams can deal with your feelings or stresses . . . I dreamed I was with a group of women on a trip to Hawaii. When we got to the hotel, I scurried to my room, which was away from where the others were staying. Then at supper, one of the ladies was introducing a friend she had run into. I felt insignificant remembering this to be the “awesomely anointed” friend she had mentioned so often. I woke up feeling gloomy in a sense of failure. The dream was a video of the insecure feelings that were in me and a warning that insecurities would isolate and hinder relationship and ministry if I left them unresolved. This dream came from a need in my own soul; but it was a revealing telegram letting me know God had made an appointment for confrontation. He allowed me to see so I would take it to Him for resolve and release.

Our feelings will try to convince us to ignore uncomfortable dreams, but truth does not bring condemnation. To see strongholds or failures or weakness in ourselves or others in dreams absolutely should not be a source of condemnation! They are not a source of blame but a battle strategy to bring victory. We must respond with our will to Truth and not allow emotions to undermine an appointed confrontation that leads to freedom!

Dreams can be assignments or telegrams from Hell . . . Dreams that torment, taunt, threaten, condemn, intimidate and blame without recourse reflect the character of their source. Turn the tables and view such dreams as spying out the enemy’s plans so that you can stand in the dominion God gave you and break hell’s assignments! Realize that the adversary’s aim is for you to consider every threat as a sure thing that’s coming. Remember he is a liar, always has been, always will be. He has no authority to complete such assignments, but he intends to use your authority. He intends to scare you so badly that your fear becomes his authority and legal access to his target. (Remember, fear is faith in reverse and allows the adversary in the back door.) Or, if he cannot scare you, then he will try to condemn you. If you believe you deserve his plans and you can do nothing to stop them, he gains access through that deception. Take authority over such to bring it down.

We have authority through the Anointed One that lives in us. We take authority through the Word. Proclaim the Truth and defeat the liar: No weapon formed against me shall prosper, (Isa 54:17). “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer 29:11-NIV) When hell’s assignments stir up Godly obedience instead of fear, and when hell’s graphic telegrams stir up authoritative intercession and proclamation rather than intimidation, we will rest confidently in the night hours!

Dreams can be rehearsals or telegrams from Heaven . . . to reveal or confirm direction, to impart wisdom, to stir creativity, to call to intercession, to call to repentance, to call to deliverance, to call to purpose and destiny, to reveal Truth and liberty.

Interpreting dreams . . . I write down significant dreams and date them (sometimes the date proves to be a confirmation.) Then I ask God to open up the meaning of a dream when I sit down with it. I wait before the Lord and I write down my thoughts as I read through a dream. Sometimes the thoughts seem piecemeal before they begin to fitly join in theme and purpose. Sometimes, the Lord opens things up as I search the scriptures or a dictionary or other reference works as He directs. Sometimes He drops a completely new thought or realization in my thinking. I keep a log of the various meanings of symbols as they open up to me. After working with a dream, I submit it to the dreamer. Interpretation is an act of faith, as is a prophetic word, as is praying for the sick, as is a Word of Knowledge, as is everything that is done in His name, (for whatsoever is not of faith is sin, Rom 14:23). If all or part of the interpretation brings a release of truth into the dreamer’s life, an ear to hear is being developed in us both!
